ACORN “Abuse” – Not Journalism

More ACORN tapes have surfaced, this one shows the “undercover agents” asking an ACORN employee about setting up their international prostitution ring that may involve children 14-18 but the catch is that they want to disguise the profits because one day they wish to run for political office. Oh boy.
So as you can clearly tell from the tapes the ACORN lady is acting sketchy as hell, they even mention getting her personal cell number. The claim is that ACORN caused this to happen by the way they are setup, but the facts seem to dictate that this lady wasn’t so much acting on behalf of ACORN but her own self interest. Consider this, you work at ACORN so you’re not the richest person on the block and 2 rich white folk come in and start talking about this international prostitution ring they want your help on (hey, now she can blackmail you you’ve given her power in the relationship), you’d assume this would be a giant payday even if you questioned the morals. I’m not saying what the lady did in the tape was right at all, and certainly she should be punished one way or another, but she wasn’t acting based on ACORN policy (the best answer she gives to how it would work is “oh I do that research ya”), she was hoping this would generate her personal income.
Hannity suggests it’s journalism to get this kind of report, it’s not, if anything it explains basic human behavior in a monetary system. That’s insulting to everything journalism is as it only presents one side of the issue (which, knowing what Hannity is, is probably his definition of journalism). You have here people who have located “the poor”, offered them fictitious cash and tried to see how far they would go to get it. This is a gotcha moment, and their commentary on the legal cases surrounding this issue didn’t explain anything. The people filming are getting in trouble because there’s a state law that says you need to inform all parties before filming them, something they did not do. They clearly broke the law, that doesn’t invalidate their tapes, but a punishment is surely needed. It is a very important law in this country to know when I am being recorded and I believe I have the right to know when another private citizen is recording me. The ACORN challenge is completely backwards from what they explain, ACORN didn’t mount this challenge after the dust settles, their claim is that Congress, without any investigations, removed funding from a single specific organization without any due process. It clearly states in our laws that Congress cannot single out a single organization without proving whatever it is they accuse. It’s to prevent Congress from singling out an organization for political purposes…ha.
