COPENHAGEN — A visibly angry Barack Obama threw down the gauntlet at China and other developing nations Friday, declaring that the time has come to “not to talk but to act” on climate change.
Earlier, Obama shredded his prepared schedule a few minutes after landing in Copenhagen Friday, racing from the airport to an emergency meeting with 18 other leaders from large nations in a last-ditch effort to save the foundering climate change conference.
It might prove to be too little too late, but at least there’s a sense of urgency (and I’m sure the climate in congress doesn’t help his emotions). If he’s able to swoop in and leave with some kind of legal binding agreement where the rest of the world can sleep at night feeling like we all did everything we could he would really be the savior of this conference. I think Obama has some blame to face for letting it get this bad, though through proxy, and so I hope he clears things up, I’m quite excited for his speech where I hope his stern tone towards China continues.
